Two FO’s for Kim

I went to the post office today and mailed a couple of things.

First, I sent off this little guy to my friend in New Zealand.  Many thanks to Bittersweet for posting the directions to make it.  He was fun and quick to knit, and came out just adorable — but he also ended up being roughly 6" tall, which was too big for my original intent — so off he goes to Kim in Kiwi-land.

Hat Trick!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I have been knitting some hats at the request of a friend in New Zealand whose breast cancer has, unfortunately, returned.

It was kind of cute:  in her email request, she actually offered to PAY me.

Not Exactly Juvenile, but Delinquent

Good heavens.  It’s been a week and a half.  I’m a delinquent blogger.

According to the thesaurus, you could also say, "behindhand, derelict, disregardful, heedless, inattentive, indifferent, lax, lazy, negligent, regardless, remiss, slack, thoughtless, uncaring, unmindful".

Sock Design 101: Part 1

Oh, happy day!  DH has another pair of handknit socks, and I have one less UFO.  (Believe it or not, I’m down to just SIX UFO’s.  My advice is to keep an eye out for plagues of locusts.)

Mad Sheep (Beyond At the Agrodome)

Ever see a sheep being sheared?

Ever see a sheep being sheared that really wasn’t enthusiastic about the proceedings?

Would you believe it still takes less than 7 minutes?

OMG, this had to be one of the biggest highlights of the entire trip to New Zealand:

What I Knit This Summer

I’m sure at least one of you is wondering — "Well, fine, lots of sheep, some yarn stores, but did she actually get any knitting done on the trip?"

Well, yes and no.  OK, well, actually, there can only be one accurate answer there, which is YES, I did knit a couple of things on the trip.  However, NO, I did not finish 4 pairs of socks for DH.

Cruella’s — Nelson, NZ

Nelson, NZ — a town at the north end of the South Island — is kind of an odd place.

It is the nearest town of any real size to Abel Tasman National Park, which is where we had a day of kayaking booked.  The kayaking was fabulous — we had a beautiful sunny day, and the water there is this incredible turquoise blue.  It is hard to believe it, but I took this picture of a sailboat (with a white sail) specifically for the purpose of showing that it really is, in fact, this amazing color.

Other-Blog

Ooopsie.  Did I forget to mention that there is more stuff about our New Zealand trip over at other-blog.com?

Maybe I did.

DH doesn’t want comments enabled over there though, because he is convinced that certain co-workers will post work stuff on it just to bug him.  I may enable comments on my posts, if I can manage it.

DOOOOON-Eden!

OK, I admit it — this blogging "on the road" thing is a little harder than I thought it would be.  The main problem we are encountering is with accessing the "hotspots".  While there are plenty of them, it seems like practically each and every "hotspot" is owned by a different internet access company.  So, you either have to (a) choose one, buy an account and then find hotspots to go with it or (2) pick your hotspot, then buy yet another card or account in order to access it.

Yarn, Finally

Well, it had to happen sometime. I had to stumble upon some yarn eventually.

I didn’t expect it to be in the little town of Gore, though. Nor did I expect it to be some lovely handspun.
