Another Free Download – Decreasing

We've spent the past two weekends putting new laminate flooring down in the kitchen and family room. The house has been in complete disarray. The animals are freaked out, and if we want to watch TV, we have to go in the guest bedroom.

Possibly the Laziest Smartest. Short-Row Heel. Ever.

Hey, the Olympics are over and I did get something finished on my 2010 Knitting Wish List — well, one sock, anyway.

But it's a doozy of a sock. This picture may not look like much, but trust me on this. (Plus, there are better pictures further down.)

My Knitting Wish List for 2010

Hey, I finally put together a list for What I Want to Knit This Year!

Yeah, well, so what if it's mid-February?

This idea has been kind of nagging at me for a month or so — but what finally prompted me to get it down on paper was an incident last week, when Linda asked, "So what are you knitting for fun?" — after seeing what I was knitting on for work — and I had to say, "Nothing." That, my friends, is a sad state of affairs, and one I thought I ought to rectify. I've gotten started on it, as you can see to the right, although that item happens to be the very last one on the list. You'll have to read ALL THE WAY THROUGH if you want to know what that noise is all about.

Hey, I Fixed It! (TessKnits.com Is Back Up)

Apologies to anyone who tried to check in over the weekend. This "webmaster" thing can be kinda tricky, ya know?

In the past couple of weeks, I'm 2 for 2, what with killing the Polar Bear Patterns store, and then taking the whole blog down. At least I got this back up and running — and the post I wrote on Friday about recycling yarn is really pretty good, so maybe you can go read that one. As for me, I'm off to see what I can do about the patterns store…

An Easier Way to Recycle Used Yarn

Over at Knitting Daily, today's post talks about how to "get the kinks out" of yarn after frogging a TOAD. (And if that didn't make any sense, you may want to read about online knitting jargon here.)

Someone At Vogue Knitting Reads My Blog!

Some habits die hard. Has anyone ever heard the joke that an engineer only needs two data points to come to a conclusion?

Data Point 1: A couple of years back, in January '08, I was working on the sweater I dubbed the "Nutcracker", after the name of the spread in Vogue Knitting's Holiday '07 issue. I ran into a few issues with that project — which are spelled out beginning with this post — but the biggest problem was that I suspected (and can in fact mathematically prove) that the model was photographed with a big ol' wad of fabric bunched up behind her back, to make the sweater design look fitted, when in fact it was not.

Can We Get One More Knitter at Garden Home?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record: the Wednesday morning class at Garden Home Rec Center needs ONE MORE KNITTER! otherwise, the class will have to be cancelled!

In theory, class starts tomorrow morning — so if you were perhaps planning to sign up when you got there, well — if you could do it NOW instead, that would be awesome! The Garden Home phone number is 503/629-6341.
