Behind the Scenes

What a week it has been.  I had a birthday, so I took a few days off — DH had the flu, so he did too.  Is it just me, or is it darned near impossible to get anything done when your husband is home?  So, not much posting going on.

Last week I did fix & update a few things here at TessKnits.com, but they are all behind-the-scenes blog & website stuff.  Nothing you want to read about, probably.  The only bits you may have been able to notice is that the URL is just "tessknits.com", with no mysterious "henchal" in it now, and I have a new email address to match.  Whoopee!  Pass the champagne!  (Actually, it is kind of an important accomplishment for me to get that fixed, and it was easier than I feared it was going to be.)

Also, I did get to spend some quality time with my two "new" old VKs on my birthday and found a couple of potential new projects — not that I need any new projects –

ribbed pull

I love the shaping on this one, but I think I’d do the waist ribbing in one color or the other, not both.  Yes, I know it has a handsome man in the picture — no, I’m not being seduced by the photo this time, because I have grown up since those days they are fishing for God’s sake.  He’s wearing waders.  How sexy can a man be when he is wearing rubber pants, I ask you?

And besides, I already have a perfectly fabulous non-rubber-pants-wearing DH, who seems to appreciate me in all my weird knitting glory.

For one thing, he invited the posse over for a surprise knitting night chez moi as a birthday celebration, which was very very cool.

For another, I offer this amusing anecdote he related about the co-worker who complimented his sweater the other day –

Co-worker:  "Hey, nice sweater."

DH:  "Thanks, my wife made it."

Co-worker (holding his fists at waist level and waggling his wrists, in tones of astonishment):  "You mean, she made that?"

DH (repeating the motions, in confirmation of this strange behavior):  "Yup!"

You can’t beat a guy who will waggle his fists in public to defend your honor.

ribbon pullYes, I also know this one is pink* and made of pretty shiny ribbon*.  So what’s wrong with that??

(* I never claimed to be unpredictable!)

I might limit the amount of texture over the whole garment, though, depending on what exactly the st pattern is.

This one looks like mostly stock, so it might not be too bad.  I once did a boxy cardigan sweater with a textured pattern of 4 rows garter, 2 rows stock — in other words, heavy on the garter — and I learned my lesson.  (All I’ll say is, that the designer was lying through her teeth when she claimed that it goes incredibly fast.)

Oh, for more hours in a day, less time required for sleep, and less housework…
