New Pattern Release: Shells ‘n’ Waves Socks

Ok, so maybe it’s not exactly “new”.  Bucutout_IMG_0299t it is by “popular demand”!

These socks were originally designed for Nellie’s Never Enough Sock Club, around 2010.  I recently got an email from a knitter who made these socks before and wants to make them again, but no longer has the pattern from the sock club.  So I’ve dug it out, dusted it off, reformatted the whole thing, and put it on Ravelry for all to enjoy.

This stitch pattern came from an old withdrawn library book and it is an interesting variation on that perennial favorite, Old Shell_compShale.  I modified it a bit by taking out one round of the stockinette in between the “waves” but otherwise stayed faithful to the original version.  (But not to the crazy vintage abbreviations!  Although I kind of like the “o” they used for a yarnover.)

It is a very pretty pattern stitch, but in the end I thought the yarn that was custom-dyed for the club was too “busy” to really show it off.  Maybe someone will knit these in a tonal or solid and show us how pretty this sock can be!

I am making my first pair of sox as I write this. Following a pattern that was texted to me and impossible to read. I am at the point of “dividing for the heel”, so maybe I can get some guidance here! ?

Oh boy, trying to knit socks by text message! You are a brave woman Paula! 🙂
Does your sock pattern have a heel flap?
