Ever see a sheep being sheared?
Ever see a sheep being sheared that really wasn’t enthusiastic about the proceedings?
Would you believe it still takes less than 7 minutes?
OMG, this had to be one of the biggest highlights of the entire trip to New Zealand:
A visit to the Agrodome in Rotorua!!
Now, there are a lot of things you can do at the Agrodome: farm tours, bungy jumping, and even something called a "zorb" where they put you inside a large clear plastic ball — kind of too much like a hamster ball for me.
I was interested in only a couple of things: the SHEEP SHOW, of course, and then the Woolen Mill — shopping opportunities — strictly for research purposes, you understand… but the Woolen Mill part will have to be explored in another post, ’cause this one is gonna have plenty of sheep in it.
Prior to the start of the show, they have all the sheep stars lined up on either side of the auditorium, and you can get up close and personal with them. Most of them do not have horns, so they are probably mostly ewes — but if you listen, it seems I think of all sheep as being universally "he’s".
I can’t possibly show you everything they did in the show: besides the shearing, there were sheep dogs running on the backs of the sheep, there was audience participation in milking a cow — all kinds of farm-y stuff.
But there’s one thing I just have to show you. At the very end of the show, they have a New Zealand-Style "Drinking Race"… which I WON!! (You’ll note that some of us keep our heads when the action starts, unlike the girl next to me who starts shrieking.)
and wait until you see WHAT I won!!
Apparently most people don’t actually take their prize home with them — someone came around with a laundry basket and tried to collect it from me — pfft! No way was I giving that up!
While the videos are fun, here also is a gallery of some of the best pictures from the very best part of New Zealand — the AGRODOME!!

On the way out of Rotorua the next day, we drove past the Agrodome once more, just as the 11:00 show was about to start — and before I could say anything DH said firmly, "No, we’re not going back."
