Even though I’m in New Zealand, I still have to get some work done.  Or rather, I need to do some stuff that I didn’t get done before I left.  Ha!  Now I can call the trip a "business expense", heh heh.

OK, maybe not the kayaking parts.

It turns out that it’s very hard for me to think of it being the New Year while I’m sitting here in the sunshine and watching people walk along a beach.  But it is actually January, and so I’ve got some new classes coming up soon, and I should probably tell someone about them.

Here’s what’s scheduled at the Knitting Bee:

Sat, 1/24, 2:00-4:00 – Learn To Purl – if you’ve got knitting down pat but haven’t yet purled, here’s your chance.  We’ll explore purling, stockinette, ribbing and seed st as time permits.

Thurs, 2/12, 6:00-8:00 - Knit Fixes – always popular!  If your biggest knitting complaint is that you don’t know what to do when it’s screwed up, this is the class for you.  We’ll work with a swatch so there’s "no fear" and we’ll make and fix many common mistakes.  Learn important things about the way knitted fabric "works" that you didn’t know were important!

Thurs, 2/26, 6:00-8:00 – Continental - Learn this style of knitting where the yarn is carried in the left hand.  "Throwers" often have "speed envy" of Continental knitters; and Continental can be more ergonomic; but do you know what the REAL bonus of Continental knitting is?  You don’t have to move the yarn manually back and forth between the needles when switching between knit and purl.  That’s right:  seed st and ribbing are a complete breeze.  Learn this skill and take your knitting to a whole ‘nother level.

Sats, 3/7 & 3/14, 1:30-3:30 – Easter Basket – This cute little felted basket uses a moebius strip for the handle and top edge.  I actually prefer to teach a different way to cast on a moebius strip than the one Cat Bordhi uses:  I kind of think my way is better and easier, but maybe you should be the judge.  (I can also do the Cat Bordhi way if you insist.)

And here’s what’s going on at Garden Home Rec Center:

Group Knitting, All Levels — In a small group setting, learn to KNIT or bring any project for help. Bring size 8 needles and a smooth medium-weight yarn to first class or bring your project in progress (pattern, yarn and needles). Small class with individual attention.
