Wrap Cardigan, Part 2 – whoops, I did it again

I really shouldn’t be allowed to knit late at night.

When I left off last time, I was trying to convince myself that I didn’t have to start the wrap cardigan over, that the upper back was not too wide.  OK, OK, I knew deep down that it was, but I didn’t want to hear it.

So, this weekend I took the piece to the final authority, which is Sandi, and got her opinion, which was what I knew it was going to be:  Yes, it’s too big.  Start over.

Well, I thought, here’s a chance to turn a negative into a positive.  So I went down two needle sizes, to size 4, and made another swatch.  You see, when that fabric relaxed and expanded after steaming last time, it did turn kind of a little loosey-goosey on me, so I figured here’s my chance to correct that issue.

Having once again learned my lesson, I dutifully steamed the swatch this time, let it dry overnight, checked out the results (nice fabric), measured the gauge, did some math.

Then, late last night, I grabbed my SIZE 6 NEEDLES which were still in the bag from the first attempt, cast on, and proceeded to knit a near-duplicate of the too-big piece I already had, only wider yet.

I’ll pause here for a moment to let you stop laughing.

I’m not sure what I did to upset the Gauge Gods this badly, but at the moment they are definitely not on my side.  I may need to burn some cashmere, or something.
